Dirt and Dogs "Tails of Rescue"

http://dirtanddogs.blogspot.com/2010/11/tails-of-rescue-dinka.html

Trina has a way of helping me see the light before my eyes. I probably would have not given Dinka a chance had she not said the right things at the right time. Thanks Trina!

MOAB 12!

From November 2010
Turkey Day week ended up being quite a nice long break. My days off fell perfectly with the days the shop would be closed, giving me 6 days off in a row. And I planned to ride every one of em!

From November 2010
My new little trail dog, Dinka, joined me on many of the rides, as well as Gustifson H Blakfur. It's officially Gus's riding season again as the temps haven't gotten much out of the 40's.

From November 2010
Mary and I didn't make it to Moab as soon as we thought in the week, due to an unexpected opportunity to see our new RA doctor down in Delta. She has upped one of Mary's meds, and is tapering another. We hope that the change will help Mary deal with the cold temps a little better. Otherwise we are moving to Copper Canyon Mexico next year for the winter...don't think we won't!!!

From November 2010
Last visit to Moab, Andy and I found the beginning of an un-finished trail called Pipe Dream, literally out the back door of Mary's parents house. Now, a few months later, the trail is finished, and it is awesome. Moab single track, right from the back door all the way to Hidden Valley trail head. However, ride it in the morning, cause its darn cold in the shadow of the Moab Rim, which engulfs the trail at about 1 PM.

Andy is always hopping onto rocks and challenging mountains...and logic!

Keith came over from GJ for our final ride day. We planned a "short" little ride, Sovereign Trails to town. It was longer than I expected (Mary says this happens a lot) but the sun was shining from a cloudless sky. Despite cold temps it was a perfect day to pedal and likely the last of snow free trails for the year.

For only 2:30 in the afternoon that shadow is pretty long. Another season has arrived. Not my favorite one, but I'm realizing that as I get older they just aren't as long as they used to be. For Spring, Summer and Fall that's kind of a bummer, but Winter....I'm doing my best to appreciate Winter.... snowy, cold, dreary, make my wife hurt Winter.

We went "Fun" Riding....

All pictures are by Mike Curiak, or Gregory Luck (excepting one terrible pic of Greg I took "back in the day".)

"Free Riding"-- The term means different things to different people. I almost never use it, as it tends to pigeon hole me as the type of rider that shuttles everything, sessions the same spot over and over, and loathes to peddle. Although it's not the norm for any of this group, I guess you could say we went "Free Riding" for an afternoon last week. But just so you don't think that's all we do, for our purposes, we'll call it "Fun Riding" from now on. I've been eye'n this drop for a while. I had a few "chickin" runs up to it. I even had to walk away from it for a while. Mary said "don't drop it if you can't visualize it". My own advice turned on me. Finally....I nailed it.

MC had this roller (above), but that darn log at the bottom? We'll save that one for another day.

The snow made things interesting. We all went sledding at least once.

Some words here about my friend Greg, and the above photo circa 2006. Note Greg's bar ends, narrow handlebars, his Ti Moots YBB, and that near "areo" riding position. Greg is older than you might think, cycling has preserved him well. Despite his ripe old age, Greg has given up on "fun hating". He's riding a big bike, riding aggressive lines, wearing (gasp) knee protection, and pushing his limits more than ever. Greg is a "Fun Rider!"

When I was a little kid I watched a lot of the Dukes of Hazard. I always dreamed of flying through the air like the Duke Boys. Dreams do come true....Yeee Haaa!

Escape the Adventure...

From November 2010
The end of the season for the crew from Escape Adventure's is always celebrated with a trip to Gooseberry Mesa. All employees past and present are invited.

From November 2010
The "Guides", as I affectionately call them, never fail to whip up amazing meals. Pre-breakfast layout pictured above.

From November 2010
We always follow good meals with fast paced bike riding, laughing, eating again, then more bike riding.

The day ended with the Sun illuminating the big rocks of Zion, playing hide and go seek with the different cliff bands, turning one on, while turning others off.

I find Keiths perspective on the trip relevant and somewhat poetic. Check it out here... http://westylivin.blogspot.com/2010/11/over-edge.html
