It's been a while...Mary was sick for most of February, and I got sick the day after our Gus died. My sickness turned into pnemonia! Soooo, adventure's in March were pretty non exsistent. Frankly I don't remember much of March, which is fine by me. We know that we miss our Gustifson and are thankful for our friends and family's support and, most of all, our little Dinka Jane. She has been such a huge help and really stepped up her game. She's got big shoes to fill- it's not easy being the little sister of the best dog in the world!
With spring finally upon us, we took our friends Geo and Ketha to a little known canyon in UT. A hike inside the earth. A place of color and shape. A place where water and rock dance together a few times a year in a violent yet beautiful routine.
Strange is normal, normal looks strange. A human being in this world just looks funny. And I don't mean my Mary looks funny, just out of place.
The deeper we go, the higher the walls rise, and the more the canyon closes in. The pressure of the water that ocassionialy passes through here seems terrifying to contemplate. But of course, the rock doesn't really care. Only a human...or a little dog...would care if a flood raced through here. The rock just doesn't think about such things.
As we were making our way back out, a giant boulder fell in our path. At first Geo and I were very scared, but luckily Mary was there to save us!
At the end of the labrynth we drove a few short miles to yet another of Utah's wonders, Goblin Valley. A place that's kind of weird. How does Utah come up with this stuff???
Bonnie, Allie and I hiked that (shall remain nameless) canyon last spring. The rock and sandstone formations are amazing. That same boulder fell on us too. Nice!!
